Discover our azure skies and wide open spaces, beaches and lakes. In the surrounding countryside you’ll find vineyards and fruit and olive orchards. The numerous gourmet cafes and the burgeoning arts and crafts scene among them some of New Zealands top sculptors, painters and potters are all part of our local environment. Then there’s our beautiful national parks and the great playground on the water. Recent visitor, famous New Zealand yachtsman Chris Bouzaid was pretty upbeat for a man who has sailed all around the world when he said of our great cruising grounds in an interview for the Nelson Mail: “We’ve been here for a couple of weeks and we’re here for another couple, doing the Sounds and Abel Tasman and just generally cruising around. This is a fabulous cruising area. It’s as good a cruising area as any part of New Zealand. You come out of the marina and it doesn’t matter where the wind is from. If it’s one way you can head to Abel Tasman and if it’s the other you can go to the Sounds. And they’re both only a few hours away.” There’s so much to see and do around Nelson, gateway to the world- renowned Abel Tasman walkway .
